12/19 - Tippi Hedren
Tippi Hedren - Actress / Activist
Nathalie Kay "Tippi" Hedren (born January 19, 1930) is an American actress and former fashion model with a career spanning six decades. She is primarily known for her roles in two Alfred Hitchcock films, The Birds and Marnie, and her extensive efforts in animal rescue at Shambala Preserve, an 80-acre (320,000 m2) wildlife habitat which she founded in 1983. Hedren is the mother of actress Melanie Griffith, and they share credits on several productions, notably Pacific Heights (1990). In 1981, Hedren produced Roar, an 11-year project that ended up costing $17 million and starring dozens of African lions. "This was probably one of the most dangerous films that Hollywood has ever seen", remarked the actress. "It's amazing no one was killed." During the production of Roar, Hedren, her husband at the time, Noel Marshall, and daughter Melanie were attacked by lions; Jan de Bont, the director of photography, was scalped. She later co-wrote the book Cats of Shambala (1985) about the experience. Roar made only $2 million worldwide. Hedren ended her marriage to Marshall a year later in 1982. The film directly led to the 1983 establishment of the non-profit Roar Foundation and Hedren's Shambala Preserve, located at the edge of the Mojave Desert in Acton, California between the Antelope Valley and the Santa Clarita Valley 40 miles (64 km) northeast of Los Angeles. Shambala currently houses some 70 animals, including African lions, Siberian and Bengal tigers, leopards, servals, mountain lions and bobcats. Hedren lives on the Shambala site and conducts monthly tours of the preserve for the public. Hedren took in and cared for Togar, a lion that belonged to Anton LaVey, after he was told by San Francisco officials that he couldn't keep a fully grown lion as a house pet. More recently, Shambala became the new home for Michael Jackson’s two Bengal tigers, Sabu and Thriller, after he decided to close his zoo at his Neverland Valley Ranch in Los Olivos, California. On December 3, 2007, Shambala Preserve made headlines when Chris Orr, a caretaker for the animals, was mauled by a tiger named Alexander.

12/12-Wendy Malick, Kenny G
Wendy Malick-"Hot in Cleveland"
Wendie Malick was born to a model mother and salesman father on Dec. 15, 1950 in Buffalo, N.Y. and went on to attend Ohio Wesleyan University. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work for Republican Congressman Jack Kemp, but quickly left politics behind to act. In 1982, she auditioned for the role of Diane on Cheers, a role that (as everyone knows) went to Shelley Long. In the '80s, Malick appeared in many TV roles on series such as Three's Company, Kate & Allie and Anything but Love. Her film work includes Scrooged, The American President and Bugsy. Malick received a great deal of attention for her role as ex-wife Judith Tupper Stone in the HBO comedy Dream On, for which she received four Cable Ace Awards. The series showcased Malick's comedic timing as well as her sex appeal, and Just Shoot Me! was an organic next step.
In Just Shoot Me! Malick played the role of narcissistic fashion editor Nina Van Horn from 1997 to 2003. Just like her character, Malick was a former model; a statuesque 5'10", she had signed with Wilhelmina in the 1970s. In 1999, she was nominated for two Emmys and a Golden Globe. In 2003, she moonlighted as a lounge singer on Frasier, which featured her one-day future Hot in Cleveland co-star Jane Leeves. She stayed with the show until its final season in 2004. A vegetarian, Democrat and philanthropist who fights for women's rights and humane treatment of animals, Malick has done more than 80 guest appearances and enjoyed a successful voiceover career. Her TV work continues with Victoria, an L.A. soap star who lands, quite unexpectedly, in Hot in Cleveland.
Victoria Chase loves to be the center of attention, can't get enough compliments and is, as much as one can be, delightfully vain. For 27 years she played Honor St. Raven on the recently canceled daytime drama Edge of Tomorrow. She has five ex-husbands, three adopted children (she didnt want to ruin her figure) and one grandchild. She still suspects her third spouse may have been gay. Now in her early 50s, Victoria may be self-obsessed, but she's always there when her friends need her.
Kenny G has long been the musician many jazz listeners love to hate. A phenomenally successful instrumentalist whose recordings make the pop charts, Kenny G's sound has been a staple on adult contemporary and smoothjazz radio stations since the mid-'80s, making him a household name. Kenny G is a fine player with an attractive sound (influenced a bit by Grover Washington, Jr.) who often caresses melodies, putting a lot of emotion into his solos. Because he does not improvise much (sticking mostly to predictable melody statements), his music largely falls outside of jazz. However, because he is listed at the top of "contemporary jazz" charts and is identified with jazz in the minds of the mass public, he is classified as jazz. Kenny Gorelick started playing professionally with Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra in 1976. He recorded with Cold, Bold & Together (a Seattle-based funk group) and freelanced locally. After graduating from the University of Washington, Kenny G worked with Jeff Lorber Fusion, making two albums with the group. Soon he was signed to Arista, recording his debut as a leader in 1982. His fourth album, Duotones (which included the very popular "Songbird"), made him into a star. Soon he was in demand for guest appearances on recordings of such famous singers as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Natalie Cole. Kenny G's own records have sold remarkably well, particularly Breathless, which has easily topped eight million copies in the U.S.; his total album sales top 30 million copies.
The holiday album Miracles, released in 1994, and 1996's Moment continued the momentum of his massive commercial success. He also recorded his own version of the Celine Dion/Titanic smash "My Heart Will Go On" in 1998, but the following year he released Classics in the Key of G, a collection of jazz standards like "'Round Midnight" and "Body and Soul," possibly to reclaim some jazz credibility.
Faith: A Holiday Album was released that same year, followed by a limited-edition re-release of the 1997 Greatest Hits disc. In 2002 Kenny G dipped into tropical territory with Paradise, which featured guest appearances by Brian McKnight and Chanté Moore. This was followed by a music video collection, another holiday album, entitled Wishes, and, in 2003, a second greatest-hits collection, Ultimate Kenny G. Perhaps in a bid to shake up his discography a bit, in 2004 Kenny G released At Last...The Duets Album, which featured "duets" with LeAnn Rimes and Chaka Khan. Two years later, smooth jazz's king of the soprano sax returned to a purely instrumental approach on the brassy, big-band-inspired albums Holiday Collection and I'm in the Mood for Love; 2006 was also the year the artist was dubbed the best golfer in music by Golf Digest, beating out Vince Gill for the number one spot. In 2008, Kenny G released the Latin-inspired Rhythm and Romance. The sax player next drifted toward R&B for 2010's Heart and Soul, which featured guest vocals from Robin Thicke and Babyface. Scott Yanow, Rovi

10/17-Pat Boone
Pat Boone-Singer, Actor and Writer
Google Pat Boone – be warned, more than 1.9 million results show up! – and a word picture of an astonishing, long lasting, still thriving career in music and entertainment emerges.
Singer, actor, TV host, producer, songwriter, author, motivational speaker, TV pitchman, radio personality, record company head, TV station owner, sports team owner, family man, humanitarian, a man unafraid to air his views.
A lot of Pat Boones from which to pick and choose.
A lot of Pat Boones to go around.
Right now, Boone – the #10 all time top recording artist, according to music industry bible, Billboard – is the Lion in Winter, five decades of recording history behind him and a busy future ahead. A very active lion…
Boone runs his own record company, The Gold Label, designed for legendary artists of a certain age and certifiable talent (all with million-selling gold records to their credit) “It’s a senior tour for singers,” he jokes. “But there is a qualification: they have to be able to sell records.” So far Glen Campbell, Jack Jones, Roger Williams, Patti Page, Cleo Laine, Sha Na Na and others (as well as Boone himself) have lived up to the Founder’s Maxim. More than 30 Gold Record albums have been released to date.

10/10-Andy Anderson
Andy Anderson-MEMOIRS OF THE ORIGINAL ROLLING STONE
Long before the days of the popular British rock band, a group of boys from Mississippi started the original Rolling Stones. In those days the music they played was so new, it was difficult to find records of it or hear it on the radio. Each time they composed a tune they were creating a new sound, which would become known as rockabilly. These were the godfathers of rock & roll and this is their story.
Andy Anderson is one of the godfathers of rock & roll. A contemporary of Elvis Presley, who played with the King on several occasions, Anderson has many top 40 hits to his credit. Erika Celeste is an Emmy award-winning writer and documentarian. She and Anderson met during the former High Notes radio show at Mississippi State University and the rest is history.

9/19-Little Joe, Charles Fox
Little Joe-Confessions of a Hollywood Hairstylist
For more than 100 years, every person who has ever given a haircut to a Hollywood Celebrity has Pledged, Promised and Vowed to publish every detail in a book. Guess how many books have been written to date. The answer is ONE! The book is new and appropriately called CONFESSIONS... of a HOLLYWOOD HAIRSTYLIST. The author is Little Joe Micale, Hairstylist to the Stars. Interestingly, Little Joe has enjoyed a dual career as a writer!
"CONFESSIONS..." is a selection of the Cream of the Crop of Little Joe's columns that were published in two Southwest Florida newspapers, the Islander, a Breeze publication owned by Ogden Newspapers and The News-Press, a Gannett newspaper. News-Press readers elected Joe "Best Columnist of Southwest Florida Runner-up, 2007."
Most of the columns focus on Hollywood Celebrities like Dirty Harry's alter ego, Clint Eastwood; Hollywood writer Sydney Skolsky; Movie Sex Goddess Jayne Mansfield; dear friend Telly "Kojak" Savalas; Cheers Bartender Nick "Coach" Colosanto; Kung Fu's Philip Ahn; Top 40 Countdown KingCasey Kasem; Screen Beauties Connie Stevens, Stephanie Powers, Debbie Reynolds and Judy Garland; Comic Icon Red Skelton; the Comedy Team of Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara; Tony Curtisand Larry Storch. Also meet a not-so-reclusive Howard Hughes! And everyone will certainly enjoy an intimate look at the life of Character Actor Paul J. Micale, Little Joe's father, who with more than a hundred Movie & TV credits is best remembered as Father Carmine in the Rocky series of movies that starred Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire and Bert Young.
Charles Fox-Killing Me Softly
"Killing Me Softly With His Song." "I Got a Name." "Ready to Take a Chance Again." The themes from "Love, American Style," "Happy Days," "Laverne & Shirley" and "The Love Boat."
What do these songs have in common?
They all came from the melodic mind of Charles Fox, who, for the past half-century, has composed more than 100 motion picture and TV scores, ballets and classical works. The two-time Emmy Award winner, Grammy winner and two-time Oscar nominee recalls his successful career in his new autobiography, aptly titled "Killing Me Softly: My Life in Music," which comes out next week.
At 69, the soft-spoken Fox certainly isn't resting on his laurels. He and frequent collaborator Hal David last week introduced "90210 Beverly Hills," the official theme song of the city.
"The mayor asked us to write it," says Fox, relaxing on a recent Saturday afternoon in his memorabilia- and award-filled music studio at his Encino house.
Just last week in Gdansk, Poland, he conducted a new composition written to commemorate the 200th birthday of Chopin.
He also penned the music and appears in the new documentary "100 Voices - A Journey Home," playing on 500 screens around the country for one night only on Sept. 21, about the personal stories and musical performances of a group of Jewish cantors and Fox, who traveled last year to Poland, the birthplace of cantorial music.
Born in the Bronx, Fox got his first professional start at age 15, playing in a band at a hotel in the Catskills. He attended and graduated from the High School of Music and Arts in New York City, then at 18 traveled to France to study for a few years at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau with the famed Nadia Boulanger, the influential composer, conductor and teacher.
"So many people asked me about her," he says. "She had an extraordinary ability to go into the heart and soul of each composer."
Fox collaborated with lyricist Norman Gimbel on his best-known hits including "I Got a Name" and "Killing Me Softly."
"I Got a Name," which was a big hit for the late Jim Croce, was written for the 1973 Jeff Bridges film "The Last American Hero."
"We played the song for Jim Croce over the phone," Fox says. "He said 'I would like to do it,' because it brought him closer to his father who died at a young age before he was able to fulfill his own dreams." (Sadly, Croce died in a small commercial plane crash before "I Got a Name" was even released.)
The same year Fox and Gimbel wrote "I Got a Name," they scored a huge international hit with "Killing Me Softly," recorded by Roberta Flack. It won three Grammys: song of the year, record of the year and female pop vocal. But Flack wasn't the first to record the haunting ballad; Lori Lieberman first sang it in 1971.
He and Gimbel had recorded nine of their songs with Lieberman when Capitol Records called and told them they really wanted to release the album as soon as possible. But they needed another song. "Norman had a book with some titles and thoughts of lyrics and he had this title, 'Killing Me Softly With His Song,' " Fox says.
"He wrote the lyric that day, called me at the end of the day and read me the lyric over the phone," he says. "I wrote the music that night and the next day we got together with Lori and she loved it."
Because she was a new artist, the album didn't get a lot of promotion but received ample airplay as part of music programming on American Airlines, which is where Flack first heard it. She got in touch with Quincy Jones to find out how to connect with Fox. He said he soon got a call one day saying, " 'This is Roberta Flack. We haven't met but I am going to record your song.' "
The song was a hit everywhere. And the song became another major hit in 1993 thanks to the Fugees' recording. Notes Fox: "It brought a whole new generation to the song."

9/12-Pat Boone

After a stint as music director for soul legend Stephanie Mills, Lawrence made his mark in the gospel world by reshaping the regional Tri-City Singers in the 1990s and transforming them into an internationally acclaimed choir. The Charlotte, NC native guided the Tri-City Singers into superstar status in the gospel world with hits such as “The Best is Yet to Come,” “Encourage Yourself” and “The Blessing of Abraham,” which was number 1 on the Radio & Records Chart for a then record-breaking eighteen weeks in 2005. After a very successful Finale CD/DVD release and farewell concert tour with the Tri-City Singers, Lawrence retired from the group in 2007 to focus on personal and solo pursuits. As a producer, Lawrence has collaborated with artists as diverse as Mary J. Blige and jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis, Hezekiah Walker and the legendary Clark Sisters. Lawrence produced himself again (along with Daniel Weatherspoon) on his sophomore solo CD The Law of Confession Part 1. He will co-host the competition with GRAMMY-winner and gospel legend CeCe Winans. About Marvin Sapp: Debuting at #2, Sapp’s newest record, Here I Am, is the highest debuting gospel release ever on Billboard’s Top 200 chart. The album also debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Gospel chart, R&B chart, Top Christian/Gospel chart and on the Christian/Gospel Digital Albums chart. Sapp was first introduced to the gospel community by Fred Hammond as a six-year member of the vocal group Commissioned. He later received a Doctor of Divinity Degree from Aenon Bible College and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Friends International Christian University. Musing on his smash gospel hit from the Thirsty release, Never Would Have Made It, Sapp, the senior pastor at The Lighthouse Full Life Center Church in Grand Rapids, says, “The mind blowing thing about Thirsty is that I put it out without expectation. There was no way to predict that Never Would Have Made It would have the impact that it had.” As a family man, Sapp believes praise and worship starts in the home he shares with his wife of 18 years, MaLinda and their three children Marvin II, Mikaila and Madisson. He will be a judge in the “How Sweet the Sound” competition.

8/22 - Jan Daley, Carol Serling
Jan Daley - "Where There's Hope" PURCHASE CD
Jan Daley has put together quite a Tribute to Bob Hope. Her research has paid off in that these are not only some of the best love songs from our American Songbook but it just happens to be from Bob Hope's legacy. With the help of Les Brown Jr. producer, and John Raczka, supplying all the beautiful arrangements, it is definitely worth a listen.
Who would ever think, that Vernon Duke & Ira Gershwin would write a song like "I Can't Get Started" especially for Mr. Hope? Cole Porter did the same thing with "It's DeLovely," for a Hope & Ethel Merman duet in the 1939 musical called "Red, Hot, & Blue." What makes this album worth listening to is the way Miss Daley approaches each song in such a fresh and sensual way. Her voice is pure velvet and you can't miss the very unique arrangement of "You Do Something To Me." There is also a little gem called "I Fall In Love With You," unknown to most of us, that is sung with such simplicity you could listen to it over and over and not get tired of Miss Daley or the song. Listen to Gregg Hunter's "Niteside" show for your chance to win a copy of "Where There's Hope" from Jan Daley. JAN DALEY, is a true triple-threater with credentials as a singer, actress, and songwriter. Her career started off in regional theater with productions in Oklahoma, Anything Goes, Taming of the Shrew, Two by Two, and Carousel. She has toured the world and opened for such comedians such as Don Rickles, David Brenner and Rodney Dangerfield. Her first engagement in Las Vegas was with Louis Armstrong, and she fondly keeps "Satchmo's" photo on her piano, which reads, To Jan, "Great beautiful voice." But for Jan, her most treasured highlight in her career was singing to 40,000 GIs in Vietnam, and touring around the world, as the singing star of The Bob Hope Christmas Tour. Jan has recorded four albums, including the Academy Award nominated "Till Love Touches Your Life." She is currently working on her fifth music CD. The wonderfully talented Ms. Daley has inspired reviewers to rave, "Her voice matches her looks...in every sense a Knock-out!" - Billboard, "A rare combination...she is not a carbon copy of anyone! She surprised us with her blue eyed soul version of Stormy Weather, among others" - Hollywood Reporter, "Jan Daley is one of the most entertaining, best-balanced talent blends on the boards. The town's buyers should start biding for her exclusive services." Beauty, sex appeal, and top talent make for socko impact, a good bet for top lining all mediums-Variety. "Jan is a truly talented musician, singer and lyricist. Her marvelous voice is selectively controlled and her intonation is immaculate" - Jan broke into television at an early age and has appeared on The Tonight Show, The Merv Griffin Show, The Dean Martin Show, The David Frost Show, an on B.B.C. Television: Morcumb and Wise, and The Roy Castle Show. She also co-starred in musical specials for television, with Frankie Avalon & Jack Cassidy. Miss Daley's acting career has kept her busy co-starring with such popular actors as Bruce Willis, Alex Baldwin, George Kennedy, Cybil Shepherd, Stephanie Zimbalist, Hugh O'Brian, Peter Fonda and Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump, but as Jan puts it, my bread and butter came from doing more than 150 commercials She closed a 15 month run at the Santa Monica Playhouse, starring in the West Coast Premiere of "Funny, You Don't Look Like a Grandmother." After being asked by Broadway Producer, Don Gregory, to be the singing star of "The Follies" in Branson, Missouri for 6 months, Jan returned home with rave receives. In the New Year she starred in "And Then She Wrote," with Peter Marshall & Mimi Hines. Recently she won the leading role in "Showgirl on 52nd Street," which is rumored to be heading for Broadway. When asked what her most important production was, she smiles with pride and joy and says, "my beautiful and talented daughter, Aubrey."

Carol Serling-More Stories from the Twilight Zone
When it first aired in 1959, The Twilight Zone was nothing less than groundbreaking television. Freed from the censors’ strict oversight due to the show’s classification as science fiction, the 156 episodes explored classic, powerful, and moving human themes—love, hate, pride, jealousy, terror—in a unique style. The program sparked the imaginations of countless writers and filmmakers around the world.
With The Twilight Zone 2, some of today’s finest writers have written all-new stories celebrating the unique vision and power of Rod Serling’s landmark series. The previous anthology boasted a stellar group including New York Times bestselling authors Whitley Strieber, R. L. Stine, and Laura Lippman, and writers who wrote scripts for the original Twilight Zone and its later incarnations, such as Earl Hamner and Alan Brennert.
So as Rod Serling said, “…prepare to enter that fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition. And it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call…The Twilight Zone.”
