8/22 - Jan Daley, Carol Serling

Jan Daley - "Where There's Hope"            PURCHASE CD
Jan Daley has put together quite a Tribute to Bob Hope. Her research has paid off in that these are not only some of the best love songs from our American Songbook but it just happens to be from Bob Hope's legacy. With the help of Les Brown Jr. producer, and John Raczka, supplying all the beautiful arrangements, it is definitely worth a listen.
Who would ever think, that Vernon Duke & Ira Gershwin would write a song like "I Can't Get Started" especially for Mr. Hope? Cole Porter did the same thing with "It's DeLovely," for a Hope & Ethel Merman duet in the 1939 musical called "Red, Hot, & Blue." What makes this album worth listening to is the way Miss Daley approaches each song in such a fresh and sensual way. Her voice is pure velvet and you can't miss the very unique arrangement of "You Do Something To Me." There is also a little gem called "I Fall In Love With You," unknown to most of us, that is sung with such simplicity you could listen to it over and over and not get tired of Miss Daley or the song.  Listen to Gregg Hunter's "Niteside" show for your chance to win a copy of "Where There's Hope" from Jan Daley.  JAN DALEY, is a true triple-threater with credentials as a singer, actress, and songwriter. Her career started off in regional theater with productions in Oklahoma, Anything Goes, Taming of the Shrew, Two by Two, and Carousel.  She has toured the world and opened for such comedians such as Don Rickles, David Brenner and Rodney Dangerfield. Her first engagement in Las Vegas was with Louis Armstrong, and she fondly keeps "Satchmo's" photo on her piano, which reads, To Jan, "Great beautiful voice." But for Jan, her most treasured highlight in her career was singing to 40,000 GIs in Vietnam, and touring around the world, as the singing star of The Bob Hope Christmas Tour.  Jan has recorded four albums, including the Academy Award nominated "Till Love Touches Your Life." She is currently working on her fifth music CD.  The wonderfully talented Ms. Daley has inspired reviewers to rave, "Her voice matches her looks...in every sense a Knock-out!" - Billboard, "A rare combination...she is not a carbon copy of anyone! She surprised us with her blue eyed soul version of Stormy Weather, among others" - Hollywood Reporter, "Jan Daley is one of the most entertaining, best-balanced talent blends on the boards. The town's buyers should start biding for her exclusive services." Beauty, sex appeal, and top talent make for socko impact, a good bet for top lining all mediums-Variety. "Jan is a truly talented musician, singer and lyricist. Her marvelous voice is selectively controlled and her intonation is immaculate" -   Jan broke into television at an early age and has appeared on The Tonight Show, The Merv Griffin Show, The Dean Martin Show, The David Frost Show, an on B.B.C. Television: Morcumb and Wise, and The Roy Castle Show. She also co-starred in musical specials for television, with Frankie Avalon & Jack Cassidy. Miss Daley's acting career has kept her busy co-starring with such popular actors as Bruce Willis, Alex Baldwin, George Kennedy, Cybil Shepherd, Stephanie Zimbalist, Hugh O'Brian, Peter Fonda and Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump, but as Jan puts it, my bread and butter came from doing more than 150 commercials  She closed a 15 month run at the Santa Monica Playhouse, starring in the West Coast Premiere of "Funny, You Don't Look Like a Grandmother." After being asked by Broadway Producer, Don Gregory, to be the singing star of "The Follies" in Branson, Missouri for 6 months, Jan returned home with rave receives. In the New Year she starred in "And Then She Wrote," with Peter Marshall & Mimi Hines. Recently she won the leading role in "Showgirl on 52nd Street," which is rumored to be heading for Broadway. When asked what her most important production was, she smiles with pride and joy and says, "my beautiful and talented daughter, Aubrey."

Carol Serling-More Stories from the Twilight Zone

When it first aired in 1959, The Twilight Zone was nothing less than groundbreaking television.  Freed from the censors’ strict oversight due to the show’s classification as science fiction, the 156 episodes explored classic, powerful, and moving human themes—love, hate, pride, jealousy, terror—in a unique style.  The program sparked the imaginations of countless writers and filmmakers around the world.
With The Twilight Zone 2, some of today’s finest writers have written all-new stories celebrating the unique vision and power of Rod Serling’s landmark series.  The previous anthology boasted a stellar group including New York Times bestselling authors Whitley Strieber, R. L. Stine, and Laura Lippman, and writers who wrote scripts for the original Twilight Zone and its later incarnations, such as Earl Hamner and Alan Brennert.

So as Rod Serling said, “…prepare to enter that fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity.  It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition.  And it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.  It is an area which we call…
The Twilight Zone.”
CAROL SERLING was her husband’s first reader and toughest critic and worked closely with him throughout his career, especially during the creation of the original The Twilight Zone.  Since Rod Serling’s death in 1975, Carol has devoted herself to maintaining and expanding  the literary and cinematic legacy that Rod left behind, including this anthology, written in the spirit of the The Twilight Zone.
